What is your skin trying to tell you?
Hello beauties!!
Sophie here, the addicted-to-everything aesthetics, lover of competing in bodybuilding & newly found passion for veganism. I’ve always wanted to share my tips & tricks to everything health, life & of course skin related, so what better time to do it than now in the midst of a world epidemic (pandemic…whatever you want to call it.)
Let’s jump right in shall we!
With all the stress in the air of uncertainty for our lives, jobs & freedom, I’ve been getting A LOT of texts this past week from clients panic texting me that their skin is falling apart at the seams & they don’t understand why. Begging for the magical potion to fix it. Without even having to dig any deeper and ask a million questions as to what’s going on in their life, there’s only one killer of all that unites all of us together right now, Stress.
Stress is neither friend to our mind, body internally or skin. But let’s just focus on the skin portion for today.
Our skin, being the largest organ on our bodies, will be the first to show signs that something is not quite right. It can’t comprehend what type of stress we are under, whether it be physical, emotional, environmental or mental. It just knows that something has shifted hormonally (adrenaline & cortisol 10/10 increase) and it needs to fight back ASAP.
SO whether you have dry skin, oily skin, acne prone skin, eczema, psoriasis, ALL of these conditions are now suddenly enhanced to the max. Which sends you into panic mode & stresses you out EVEN MORE!!
So what do you do?
First thing, face the stress head on. Pinpoint what’s going on, write it down or make a mental note in your head and acknowledge that you know it’s going down and it’s not gonna be pretty.
I hear so much from clients, myself included, that sometimes we are trying to do SO MUCH all the time, ALL AT ONCE, that we don’t actually realize our bodies are under some serious stress, which can be super threatening to our overall wellbeing & health.
So learn to acknowledge that you’re freaking losing it for a minute, and IT’S OKAY!
Then get it together.
Find ways to release the stress, and this is the hardest thing to do, trust me. But finding little things daily that you can keep as a routine to keep you on track and to allow yourself to dial out of life for even just a minute, will help. And no I don’t mean downing 2 bottles of wine, I’m talking about good for your soul kind of releases. Light a candle, take a bath, lay face down on a pillow & scream, BREATHE..whatever it may be.
That “breathe” app that buzzes every hour on your wrist…try using it! It’s obviously buzzing for a reason.
Whatever you can do to get some sort of tiny release, will start to add up to a big release and over time will help keep your stress under control.
It’s okay to be stressed out, you just have to let it know that YOU’RE in control, not vice versa.
Next step….address your at-home products, monthly regimen & habits.
That’s where I come in!
Process of elimination, finding what you’re using, what you’re not using, what you’re taking, what you’re not taking, when, how, for how long, why? I’m not here to judge you, I’m here to ask you 148 questions to be your own personal skin detective, reassess your life choices and see what we can change/do/add to what you’re already currently doing.
